Fashion Designer

Sweaty Betty was born in Notting Hill, London in 1998 after our founder Tamara spotted a gap in the activewear market for women who wanted to look good and work out. Teaming up with her husband Simon, they embarked on a mission to create beautiful clothes for women who lead active lifestyles. We now have over 60 shops from London to San Francisco, filled with our signature bum-sculpting leggings, beautiful prints and studio to street pieces. We believe in balance, we’re the first on the Pilates mat and the last on the dancefloor.

Working alongside our revolutionary Design team of 5 you will be reporting and in to the Head of Design with a dotted line to our Chief Product Officer. Your journey will help support and contribute to the team in designing fashion-forward, seasonal collections consisting of stylish, unique and high performing products that will deliver on of business targets on LFL sales growth and intake margin growth.

What You’ll Be Doing

Creative:

  • Design stylish, edgy, premium and performance product ensuring that the boundaries are pushed creatively to continue to set us ahead of the competition using a good understanding of the customer and her lifestyle, by being aware of any new fashion, fitness or lifestyle trends that she may be engaged in.
  • Develop and source fabrics and trims relevant for the end use of the selected range, adding ‘newness’ to the ranges and improving the existing product offer, and ensuring all products perform well with the intended end use
  • Work with established suppliers to ensure the 1st protos are correct and ready to present to the Directors for final sign off
  • Continually carry out trend and technical research to ensure ranges are always evolving and world class

  • Together with the Head of Design and the Design Team agree on seasonal themes and carry out research and inspirational shopping
  • Along with the rest of the design team create seasonal mood boards, colour palettes, key element boards in line with seasonal theme and present them to the Buying team, Head of Design, Chief Product Officer and Tamara, our Founder and Chief Creative Officer
  • Produce individual range mood boards, colour palettes & key looks reflecting the theme for the ranges you will be responsible for designing
  • Work alongside the Buying Team during the process to design the ranges within option framework and margin targets
  • Design all over and/or placement prints as required/agreed.
  • Use Illustrator to create design tech packs

  • Participate in all relevant design meetings

Development:

  • Develop samples to 2nd Sample stage with Garment Tech and Buyer to ensure aesthetic is achieved within price and technical constraints

  • Along with the Buying Team manage the development aspects of critical path effectively to ensure on time deliveries

Other:

  • To be constantly aware of our customers view on our product through monthly store visits, comp shopping, trade analysis and customer feedback

  • Contribute to the delivery of business targets
on a quarterly basis
  • Visit factories abroad, nurturing relationships with suppliers and sourcing new fabrics and trims
  • Build relationships within the team and across the business to ensure all “thoughts” behind the product are communicated to all customers
  • Deliver ‘hero product’ overview to the Marketing Team
  • Undertake presentations of ranges to the press and the rest of the business seasonally
  • To take on projects or other responsibilities as appropriate

Must Haves

A Minimum of 3 -  5 years’ Experience

Global knowledge of athleisure and trends

A good understanding woven and/or outerwear

Ability to use Creative Suite (CS6) namely Illustrator and Photoshop

 

Must live and breathe fashion and love the challenge to make it beautiful and fit for purpose. Our new team member will be approachable, friendly and a good communicator. You can prioritise your workload to accommodate the needs of your team and demands of the business and understand there are tight deadlines. You love to have fun at work and will always inject this in to your day to day workings, both with your team and wider business.
